As service providers and enterprises move to more IP/Ethernetbased infrastructures—including DSLAM aggregation, routers, Ethernet switches and IP PBXs—there is a growing need for deterministic service delivery with the performance of SONET/SDH yet more friendly and transparent to client data traffic.
For service providers, the X4 and X9 also enable cost efficiencies for the delivery of price-sensitive services such as broadband backhaul and managed services connectivity. For enterprises, these modules enable robust Wide Area Networks (WANs) to support improved response times for business-critical applications while staying within IT budget limitations.
The X4 module is equipped with four client GbE ports and two network OTU-1 ports and can aggregate up to four GbE services over Coarse and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (C/DWDM) wavelengths. Each of the client ports can be configured independently to support the 1.25 Gb/s Ethernet interface. Two incoming client services are aggregated on each wavelength with SONET/SDH-like performance monitoring and management capabilities including all of the statistics and alarming that service providers use for TDM-based services. Additionally, each network port can be configured independently to support the OTU-1 (2.7 Gb/s) protocol.
Similarly, the X9 module is equipped with nine client GbE ports and a single network OTU-2 port. This module can aggregate up to nine GbE services over a DWDM wavelength with the same robust performance monitoring and management as the X4 but at the higher OTU-2e (11.05 Gb/s) rate.
